Not sure this is applicable, but I live in NJ and work in NY.
I have CIGNA DHMO plan.
Recently, I went to the dentist for the first time in a couple years, for a routine cleaning / preventive visit. I went to the same dentist I’ve been going to for years. I let the office know my insurance changed, and they updated the info, but they did not say anything about the dentist being out-of-network for me. On the CIGNA site, he comes up in the HCP directory, but under ‘Plans Accepted’, it only says DPPO.
I just got notification from CIGNA that the claim was processed today, and it shows $0.00 patient responsibility, but also says ‘out-of-network’ next to the dentist’s name. I’m not sure I understand how I don’t owe anything if the dentist is supposedly out-of-network. Is it because it was a preventive visit? Will I be charged later?
