I’m looking to get insurance for my sibling (16M). He lives with my father, who doesn’t have insurance nor is open to getting it, but based on his income would qualify for Medicaid. My brother doesn’t have any income of his own. Is it possible for him to get Medicaid himself (not under my father)?
I cannot claim him on my employer insurance.
My brother lives in NC where Medicaid is offered through BCBS’ Healthy Blue option. Does this mean that if he qualified for Medicaid he could choose their Healthy Blue plan?
Would he get better coverage, options if he went for a regular BCBS plan instead of Medicaid?
He is a high school student and the Student Health Insurance plans are for college students.
