TN, 50s – Better/worse insurance companies/plans?

Is there a TN insurance company I should avoid for any reason? Just left Healthcare dot gov & was both amazed and overwhelmed by plan options.

Hubs & I are a couple in our 50s. No chronic health issues (except chronic aging…LOL), and almost no health care consumption for the last several years.

When we lost employer coverage several years ago, I checked pricing and it was stupid, stupid high. We’ve been uninsured and paying out of pocket ever since.

I just kind of assumed premiums were still that high, and that we wouldn’t qualify for enough of a subsidy to offset the cost. A friend urged me to check, and it seems things have changed considerably.

We’ll be moving to TN in a few months, most likely the Chattanooga area. I checked what’s available, and recognize a couple of the insurance companies from back when I did have employer provided coverage.

I still remember having to struggle to find providers in the BCBS network for a kid that needed a neurologist. That’s no longer a concern (don’t worry – the kid’s still alive!), but does make me wonder if our choice of company could again subject us to lengthy drives or low-quality care.

Errgghhh…I know that’s an entirely subjective opinion… >_<

I would also like to hear about dental care with the exchange plans. Unlike medical, that is a real need for both of us that we have mostly put off.

During the years I was covered by an employer plan, dental coverage and providers were limited. I had to bounce around from dentist to dentist every time the company changed plans or a dentist stopped taking my plan. As a result, I have had some pretty poor dental work done. I’m not sure how much of this I’ll be able to correct, or how long it will take. But I would like to be able to work with and stick with a decent dentist long term.
