Looking at a 10 day gap in coverage or COBRA $2500 to avoid a gap

Can someone help explain why I should either go the 10 day gap, or pay the ridiculously high cobra premium for just 10 days of coverage- when my new benefits begin.

Thought my previous employer/ health insurance would run through the 31st, just got word it ends on my last day of employment.

Any help is appreciated as this was a bit unexpected
