Finding provider covered by insurance with holistic approach?

I’m trying to find a provider with a more holistic approach. Holistic may be too specific as I believe holistic medicine is a specific type of medicine, as it looks like functional medicine is, too?

We have United Healthcare, and I’m trying to find the best match for our primary care provider.

We recently went to a doctor I found with incredible reviews, but what I realized is that great reviews for others doesn’t necessarily mean they approach or prioritize health in a way that works for us.

An example would be that when my husband mentioned his chronic neck and back pain, our nurse (we weren’t even seen by the doctor we made the appointment with) said that all he can do is take pain meds, muscle relaxers, or anti inflammatory medicine. There are certainly more options out there, and while I don’t expect us to find a provider which can cover or even make official referrals to all, I would like to see a provider which has an awareness and sort of integration of other methods.

Another example would be the television in the waiting room playing commercials for weight loss teas and magical wrinkle removing serums. While I don’t expect a doctor to control what commercials come on, I would feel much more comfortable with a doctor who makes considerations to the effects this sort of media can and does have on their patients’ health.

We’re limited to mostly traditional western medicine doctors, aside from a few CAM specialists. So I do have to work within those parameters.

Is there a way to find a western medicine provider with a more integrative approach? Focusing on preventative care and a more whole-human approach?

Thanks for your time and suggestions. All is appreciated.
