STI screening & EOB with possible $1K cost—what??

You don’t need my (male) SOB story, but after being cheated on by my GF, I decided to pursue STI testing, no symptoms.

Testing was actually completed 5 weeks ago this Wednesday, in-network with my doctor’s office. Still no results, which is another fun aspect of this. But I did get my EOB yesterday from my insurance company and the amount I owe is currently at $1048. Yeah. Can I afford it? Yes, via savings. But that much to be safe and responsible?

I called my insurance company already and got the individual costs lined up with each test, since the EOB didn’t delineate.

Turns out my preventative care benefits are shit unless I’m female or a 16-18 year old male. Only thing “covered” is apparently HIV screening, so I guess I can call back on that since they claim no, but that would save me a whopping $76 dollars.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what are my options, if any? How do I go about negotiating a price with the insurance company, if that’s even a thing? Or do I just bite the bullet?
