Six Months From Retirement – Stage 4 Cancer – OPTIONS? [USA]

Looking for suggestions.

My boyfriend’s father was just diagnosed with stage 4 small cell lung cancer. He is worried he’ll have to sell the house to cover his bills, etc.

He’s six months away from retirement age. Will his current employer coverage roll into a secondary and he’ll then be on medicare as well?

Thoughts? Options? We just got the confirmation today. He still has to go for a PET scan.

Is he considered a pre-existing condition where his retirement insurance won’t cover him? The thought of that is nauseating.
