So my employer offers healthcare for me and my family (2 kids). I get it as a benefit (no cost to me) but my spouse and children have to pay the full amount. I’m just above the cutoff for CHIP for my family size. I tried an eligibility quiz for the premium tax credits but I wanted to clarify something. Since my employer offers coverage but doesn’t pay for any of it for my family members, does that mean my family members can’t qualify for the premium tax credit? If so, what do I as someone just above the CHIP cutoff do in order to have my kids covered? If I cover them all on my employer’s plan, it would be well above the “affordable” amount set forth by the IRS.
