So I found out my first level appeal for jaw surgery was denied due to lack of medical necessity. However, the letter I received says that my only option is to file an external appeal, which you can also do once. I called up my insurance (United Healthcare) and they said that usually they offered second level appeals, but for some reason my case was different. I live in NY. Does anyone know why this happened? I’m terrified that I’ll lose my external appeal and be stuck with the decision.
