I have unitedhealthcare with a copay plan. My plan states I only pay $25 for in network therapy services. I found a therapist on their website who it states is in network and I have been seeing for a year. Everything was fine, until a few months ago my therapists employer (Allina health) started charging a second fee for every session which was a facility fee (which is also dumb because these are televisits). These facility fees were sent to my insurance, and the hospital he works for is out of network, so united healthcare did not pay anything towards the facility fee.
Allina is now sending me bills for multiple facility fee charges of $164 each and a total of $656 in addition to the $25 copay for every session. I have been back and forth with both companies and gotten nowhere. I made a claim with united healthcare which was denied stating the hospital is out of network (even though its just a secondary therapy charge for my in network therapist). Is my only option to appeal at this point? Does appealing get anywhere? Should I just call allina and try to negotiate these facility fees down before they send this bill to collections? It still doesn’t seem fair I have to pay them to begin with.
