Weird coordination of benefits situation

So I’m 24 years old and to my knowledge, United health was my primary insurance carrier with my parents coverage. My parents have great coverage so I never saw the need to change it until I was forced to.

As it turns out, when I started my job with my new company, I was automatically enrolled into a high deductible plan through Cigna (without my knowledge). I never received confirmation from Cigna about me being enrolled in the plan, and I never even received an insurance card from them. To my knowledge I had no benefits with Cigna.

I recently went to the hospital for some blood work and a CT scan, and to my knowledge at the time, I was still under United health. Since I provided my parents United health card, the hospital billed the amount to United. But United unveiled to me that Cigna was actually my primary (with a $2700 deductible).

As it stands now my primary is Cigna (again I was unaware and automatically enrolled), but I am still covered under my parents United plan as a dependent.

Even if my parents have a better plan in which I am covered under, am I still going to have to pay the $2700 through Cigna? Would like to know more about the coordination of benefits. What’s the best possible outcome?
