Help please: Need to chose which company is the best for Essential Plan in NYC?

Hi everyone, and thank you in advance for any advice!

My cobra is ending at the end of the month, (Ive had insurance through my union work – Aetna – for the past 13 years) and I just signed up today on the marketplace. I qualified for Essential Plan 1 as Ive been mostly unemployed for the year. I tried to find reviews of the 7 insurance company options I have, and all I could find were nightmare stories for all of them, so any advice would be appreciated.

Oddly on the Marketplace listings they were listed in an order with star ratings, but I could not find where those ratings came from. I was on the phone with a DOH advisor at the time and I asked her about the ratings, and she said she had no idea how they were computed! I looked up the one with the highest ratings: Metroplus Health, and it seemed to have the most negative reviews I have ever seen and most importantly everyone said that no doctors are on it.

The choices are: (in the starred order)

Metroplus Health Plan 1

Fidelis Care Essential Plan 1

HealthFirst Essential Plan 1

Empire BCBS Ess Plan 1

Emblem Health

United Healthcare Community Plan

Affinity by Molina (seems new…)

I’m really pretty healthy, on 2 meds, but I do have a pre cancerous thing that I watch, and I had been to Memorial SK Hospital to get that initially treated. I guess I’d like to still have that option to go there, just in case it got worse. (Tomorrow will call them to see who they are in network with..) My PCP doesn’t take any of these…

Any advice on who is the best to deal with? or if anyone has had any experience?

Also, I searched for hours, but is there a website out there that compares them side by side with customer reviews? I couldn’t find one.

Thanks again!!
