New psychiatrist says they did not receive my payment I made through my insurance company website – says I need to refund that payment and pay them directly?

Like the title says, my new psychiatrist is saying that they don’t get paid if payments are made through your insurance provider website. I have never had an issue with this before, so I am a little confused and concerned I am going to get double charged for the first appointment I had. Is this actually a real thing? Or is this specific psychiatrist just preferring direct payments due to tax reasons or something?

For reference, I have paid for multiple other appointments through my insurance website with no complaints from other healthcare providers saying they did not receive payment.

Thank you!
