I am scheduled for a diagnostic colonoscopy, which isn’t typical for someone my age (under 30), so my insurance plan says I need a prior authorization.
The doctor’s office keeps telling me that I do not need one. Every single time I call my insurance, they are very clear that I do need one. Every time I call the doctor’s office, they are clear that they aren’t doing a prior authorization because it’s their belief that I do not need one.
I am afraid of being footed a $5000 bill because someone at my doctor’s office isn’t listening. I have called damn near every office in the hospital and they all direct me back to the office of the procedure who just tells me “our prior authorization department says you don’t need it”. I ask for the phone number to the prior authorization department, and they don’t have a phone apparently so I can’t even talk to them.
I can’t afford this shit but I also don’t want to die. Any advice?
