So I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois PPO and am going to see a specialist next week for an appointment (new patient).
On the hospital’s website, they take BCBS PPO, which is what I have. The specific doctor profile on the website lists this as an insurance he accepts.
I called insurance and asked if this specific doctor was in-network, they said no he wasn’t. The provider finder on their website says he is not in-network either, which prompted the call to insurance.
I called the department directly, and they confirmed I was in network- they pulled up my appointment and confirmed I was in-network, but didn’t specifically say the doctor was. The rest of the doctors in the department accept the same plan (according to their doctor profiles). The billing department at the hospital said to refer to the “insurance” section of the special doctor’s profile.
As you can see, I’m a bit confused and frustrated. Is Blue Cross just not updated? Am I being paranoid? Any other specific avenues I can pursue to verify before my appointment?
