I had surgery in June and my Surgeon is in-network. I signed papers before surgery saying that all care provided was in-network with my insurance. I just received a claim’s summary saying the claim was made by “Assistant Surgery” and then names the provider. It says that my plan paid $265 and that I owe $17k. I also received a check for the $265 and don’t know what to do with it.
I’m unsure what to do. Do I wait till an actual bill for the $17k comes in since this is just the claim summary? Do I call my Surgeon’s office first? This is my first time dealing with high costing medical care so I’m a little overwhelmed.
More info: NY Empire Plan through my spouse’s employer. Location: NY (Hudson Valley – not city)
