After talking to my sister and realizing that the nearly 500/month I pay for health insurance for my family of 3 is rather high (comparatively to her at least) I looked into marketplace insurance plans and realized that the estimated cost for even the top tier plan is only 500/month. I’ve always heard that the marketplace is more expensive, so why is it less than my employer?
My current plan isn’t very good either- high deductibles and out of pocket cost. My only theory is since I make less than my coworkers (I am entry level) that I am able to qualify for marketplace while many of them cant…. any theories? Any reason I shouldn’t switch to a marketplace plan during open enrollment?
Also, any marketplace plans that are good/I should avoid if I switch? TIA!
