I’ve suddenly found myself in a predicament. Most of last year I worked part time at a locally owned retail store because I’m also taking classes. I have insurance through healthcare.gov that is only $38 due to tax credits.
I was recently offered a good promotion at work that required me going to full time. After deciding I could balance it with my classes, I accepted.
Now I’ve learned two things:
-My work-provided insurance doesn’t cover a very important medication I need (no generic, upwards of $1600/mo without insurance)
-I lose the tax credit through healthcare.gov if my job offers me insurance, making it $600 instead of $38.
I don’t really want to go back to the pitiful amount of money I was making at part-time, but I can’t lose this prescription.
Having to work only part-time seems like an awful concession to make for having my medications be affordable. Is there anything I can do?
