New insurance, no PCP options – how to get appointment?

I recently got new health insurance through work and made the mistake of choosing the lowest premium option, a high deductible PPO through Anthem. Not a big deal, I thought, since I don’t have health issues and won’t need anything beyond a check-up.

Of course, almost immediately afterward getting this new insurance, and for the first time in my adult life, I need to go to the doctor. I’ve been having weird headaches and other symptoms and I’m terrified something is seriously wrong with me (brain tumor, MS).

So I go to my insurance website and try to choose my PCP to make an appointment. But there were only 6 options in my area (a big city!) in-network: 3 dermatologists, a pediatrician, a physical therapist, an HIV specialist. 2 weeks later, and it’s the same 6 docs. What the heck? Did the “cheap” plan also come with a terrible selection?

This is such a stupid question, but I’ve never had to deal with this before. What do I do if I don’t have a PCP? Call a neurologist and try to schedule an appointment without a referral? Go to an urgent care clinic or ER? I’m so clueless and anxious, which is probably making my symptoms seem even worse.

Thank you for any help.
