Qualifying Life Events for Changes

I am pregnant with twins, currently employed, we have a toddler already. I insure myself and my son at the moment on my employers plan. The twins are due at the beginning of January. I plan on taking maternity leave and then quitting after it ends (due to childcare costs). My husband just got a new job with phenomenal benefits compared to my crappy plan. His benefits begin January 1st. Here are my questions:

The birth of the twins is a qualifying life event so I could add them to my husband’s plan, however could I switch my toddler at the same time? Or will that event not count for him? Is there a way to get all of us (myself, toddler, and twins) on my husband’s plan and discontinue my employer plan? If so at what point could we switch, maternity leave start, when I quit, or beginning of the year? Should I go ahead and put my toddler on his plan now since we are signing up for his benefits this week since he just started? Or even sign up all of us and I will be double insured until I quit?

I appreciate any input!
