Balance Billing 10k for ER visit 5 months ago

Info: I have a Mec Enhanced plan through CGS Health purchased through my employer. Live in PA, philadelphia specifically. 27 y/o

5 months ago I went to a hospital for what I thought was appendicitis. A CT scan, blood, and urine work later it turned out to be okay. At the time I paid my Copay at the hospital and thought that would be in. Today I got a letter sent to my mother’s address from a collections agency stating I have been billed 10k for the visit.

After speaking to the hospital, they said I had been sent to collections due to them not hearing from me in response to the bills that had been sent (they had the wrong address in their system, forgetting my apartment number).

My insurance company is telling me they paid the hospital the rate they pay for in-network services but due to them not having a contract w/ the provider, I am being balance billed for the remainder. As far as the insurance company is concerned, I should have to pay my deductible and that would settle it.

I have a request in for an itemized bill from the collections agency (the hospital refused to send) and have a review of my account being sent to collections in w/ the hospital.

What is my recourse here? Is there anything I can do to lower the amount? How do I get the bill out of collections as it was the hospitals negligence that ended it up there? I don’t have 10k lying around and I can’t understand why a CT scan was 7300 and blood work 1400 to begin with.

Edit: info
