Hi there,
I have worked the last 10 yrs for one employer and had an expensive Oxford Medical Insurance plan through them. I just got laid off and can’t afford to keep this insurance (it’s about 1,300 USD / month).
I will be receiving unemployment income from now on and I am not sure for how long. To be very honest I have felt burned out for a while and might not immediately jump into a new job, and might be receiving unemployment for 2 or 3 months perhaps. I live in New York.
Is Medicaid an option at all? As far as I understand my projected income can only be around 20k / year to receive Medicaid. If I add up the unemployment income then my projected income for 2022 is around that (~24k / year).
What happens if I go above this ~ 20k / year income projection during the year? – Friends of mine tell me it wouldn’t matter and would only get adjusted for the year after, but that sounds dodgy to me and even though I want to discover all my options, I don’t want to do anything dodgy when it comes to something as important as health insurance.
Also, I am wondering if federal subsidies are the same than medicaid?
This is a first for me and I would highly appreciate the input.
Thanks
