I have Aetna HDHP with HSA from my Employer. The doctor I want to see is in network on Aetna PPO and HMO it seems. When I check Aetna’s website for my plan it says “out of network” but when I called the doctor office they say “We take Aetna”. A little more digging it appears that only PPO and HMO are covered as “In Network” according to Aetna.
My question is, since they are “in network” on PPO and HMO is it possible for them to bill this as “in network” on Aetna HDHP? I don’t mind paying up front for services before they are performed either, if that is possible. I dont understand why it would make a difference which plan I have? The only thing I can think of is that HDHP patients may be at a higher risk of non-payment due to the high deductible so the doctor refuses to accept it?
