TL;DR Need help deciding between Gold Blue Cross Blue Shield, Gold Ambetter, or Gold Medica, or a lower tier bronze coverage.
Context Recently started a new job that has an ICHRA that reimburses $925 (spouse and I) towards eligible medical expenses. I’ve previously had BCBS and was super dissatisfied with paying $1,275 ($800 employer, $475 to add spouse) a month, plus $1,500 each just to get to coinsurance. I go about once a year and get bloodwork done, my spouse goes a few times a year, bloodwork done, and gets ultrasounds every six months for her thyroid.
We are not planning to have a child soon and do not have any foreseeable events that may require further care.
My option for BCBS is $1,400 premium, $1,500 individual deductible. Ambetter and Medica are roughly similar, but with the premium around $1,000.
My Question I make ~$62k, she is a student Should I go with the BCBS knowing I’ll pay $8,700 before I hit coinsurance (Premium + Deductibles – ICHRA Reimbursement), or should I just opt for a bronze tier coverage for the both of us (~$600) and roll over the ICHRA amount each month towards medical expenses as they come up?
Thank you in advance!
