I lost my job in March and signed up for Cobra. I got the subsidy edit covered Cobra until September. I didn’t realize it had ended until more than halfway through October. And my old job didn’t contact me and tell me the subsidy had ended and that I had to pay my half of the cobra Insurance out-of-pocket now. I couldn’t afford it cuz their plan was expensive so I told them to cancel it and they said it would be retroactive back to the end of September. So medical issues I had to I have looked at in October we’re not covered retroactively.
So I got several bills in the mail today adding up to them saying I owe the insurance company about $700.
Everywhere I read about the subsidies said that employers are required to inform their former employees the subsidy is ending a minimum of 15 days before it ends but I can’t find any information about what happens if they didn’t.
Because they didn’t inform me and I didn’t know about it until halfway through October, when I had already used my insurance multiple times, should they be responsible for my insurance payment that month? Do I have any kind of recourse to challenge the insurance company over me owing them for the medical care I retroactively wasn’t covered for
