I have BlueCross BlueShield (Illinois) PPO insurance, to which my oral surgeon’s office filed a claim back in January when I had my 4 wisdom teeth removed. I had paid around $3,000 out-of-pocket to the oral surgeon because the office is not in-network with any insurance. In early November, I got a call from the oral surgeon’s office saying that the insurance had accidentally sent my check to them and that it would be reissued and sent to me within 30 days. It has been almost 2 months now, and BCBS still hasn’t sent my check (they apparently also told my oral surgeon to send the check back to them so that it could be reissued to me, the patient). When I call, I just get transferred from customer advocate to advocate in circles and hoops, and no advocate seems to be able to answer my question of where my missing check is or what the status of it is. Also, in my BCBS account, my surgery claim status is “Not Paid.” What does “not paid” mean? Does it mean that they have yet to send me my check? I have no idea what to do so any advice is appreciated.
