Cobra Extension per COVID – Advice.

My wife changed jobs and we have a short lapse (2 weeks) in medical coverage. Cobra typically covers 60 days that is retroactive if you enroll. I noticed because of COVID and the pandemic they are disregarding this 60 days?

Now you have until the earlier of one year from the date you were first eligible for relief or 60 days after the announced end of the COVID-19 National Emergency. So basically I don’t need to look at getting short term health care for these two weeks now? Am I reading this correct? I really don’t want to purchase an expensive plan from healthcare.gov or a short term health plan if I don’t have to. Honestly if something happens I would rather just enroll in Cobra if needed for those couple weeks and then our new health insurance starts. I just want to make sure I’m reading this Cobra extension correctly, maybe some Health Insurance experts can clarify. Thank you.
