They switched me from CoveredCA to MediCal, and I lost my HealthNet PPO. I have a surgery I’ve been waiting 4 months for on January 31. What do I do?

I called HealthNet last week to ensure that if I was switched to MediCal, there would be a grace period of coverage, or I’d have the option to pay for my plan out of pocket. They were super chipper and like, “Of course!” We’d never cancel you immediately!

But that’s exactly what happened. And when I called today to ask why my insurance was declined at the doc, they said, “Well, we sent you out a notice on December 28th.”

So I’m panicked. I’ve been waiting 4 months for this hugely important surgery, and I don’t know what to do. Buying a new plan through HealthNet won’t kick in until Feb 1, I believe, but my surgery is Jan 31.

UCLA Health said I had to get on a particular plan and group through MediCal if I wanted to be covered. And even then I have to get a new primary care doctor and have them approve a surgery. No idea if that can happen in time.

Please help, Reddit. I’m panicked.
