Friend needs HI for herself, but says that she can’t/won’t apply b/c she’s not willing to put ex-bf on child support. Any advice for her?

Background Info: My friend lives in Texas. She has 2 kids, but is no longer in a relationship with their father due to physical abuse. She doesn’t want to file for child support. The main reason being that she fears that she’ll lose custody of her children. She has been dealing with medical issues (kidney stones, lower back pain, and more) for at least one year now. Eventually it led to her being terminated from her job last year because she was no longer able to physically do her job. So she doesn’t have any income at the moment.

Back in August 2021, I suggested that she look into premium tax credit to get affordable health insurance as my research at that time didn’t suggest needing to file for child support. She said that she tried, but they still required her to file for child support.

Question: Does anyone have any advice for her to get affordable health insurance given that background information I’ve provided?
