Ohio – My wife’s employer recently switched insurance providers and her new insurance isn’t covering her prescription. It’s about $400 monthly out of pocket, and I’m trying to sort out our options to reduce the cost burden. I’ve looked into:
Generic – would be about $50 monthly, but the last time she went on the generic a few years ago, it worked significantly worse for her than the name brand
Manufacturer coupon – the manufacturer has a $150 off coupon available, but when we checked with the pharmacy, you can only use it to reduce a copay or coinsurance, which we don’t have because the drug isn’t covered at all.
Switching insurance – I am going to check to see if my employer’s insurance would cover it, but it might be too late to switch for 2022 even if it’s covered?
Any other options that I may be overlooking? Is supplemental prescription insurance a thing? Her prescription was previously covered through CVS CareMark, could she enroll with them even though she has other primary insurance? Any and all ideas are appreciated, thank you!
