I am 24 (turning 25 this year), and I’m still on my parents HMO insurance plan (based out of California). I currently live in New York and my insurance (through their HMO) does not allow me to receive convenient medical services in New York. I have a pending surgery that will be fully covered (and performed) in California under my parents insurance, which is why I want to remain on their insurance.
I start a new job at the end of the month (based in New York), and will have an opportunity to sign up for health benefits. I want to stay on my parents insurance so that it covers my upcoming surgery, but I also want my own insurance so I can receive medical services in New York. Is it possible to be a dependent on your parents insurance, while also taking advantage of your employers health benefits?
