Acquiring retroactive health insurance for deceased uninsured children

I recently lost my twins who were born prematurely. They spent a total of 4 days in the NICU before passing away. I have health insurance through my employer and spoke with HR about adding the babies to my insurance approx. 5 days after they were born and she insisted that I not worry about it until I came back to work. I spoke with her several times thereafter as well. I also spoke with a rep from the insurance company about adding the twins to my insurance, but was told I had to apply through my work. I emailed HR the babies’ SSN and birth certificates 31 days after the babies were born, which was 1/1/22. I also tried to call her on 12/29/21 and 12/30/21 to ensure their insurance coverage since I noticed that I hadn’t been billed for their insurance on my paycheck. I also visited her office on both of those days, however, she was off due to the holidays. I left voice mails asking her to call me back both times.

I just learned that the babies were never added to my insurance after I received $150,000 in medical bills for their NICU care. My health insurance company is claiming that I’m responsible for 100% of the bills.

Is there any way to get health insurance for my babies during their short lives now after they’ve passed? I’d truly appreciate any insight!

PS. I’m in Pennsylvania
