My (31yo F and a stay-at-home mom) husband is considering quitting his well-paying job because it has become extremely toxic. His happiness is really suffering and I can’t watch him be treated the way he is any more. We have enough money set aside to pay for basic living expenses for several months until he finds another job, but the health insurance is what’s stopping us from pulling the plug.
I’m confused by the COBRA retroactive thing. If we decide to not enroll in COBRA right away, we have 60 days to change our mind? If something like a hospital visit happens within that time, we can just go back and pay the premium for our previous coverage?
What’s the “catch” to this? It seems like the way to go since we anticipate only a couple of months of job search. Is there a downside I’m missing?
