Hi all. There’s a tldr at the bottom. My psychologist is over the moon wonderful. I have been seeing her for family counseling for almost a year now and due to a free slot I want her to be my personal therapist too. I read somewhere that if my insurance doesn’t cover a therapist (I have bright health insurance) that I can appeal to have them covered for the sake of sanity, just like how medicines can be appealed to be covered since we can’t change them just bc. So I have been on the phone with a bright health rep and she told me that my therapist needs to submit a form so she is in my network and that if I appeal my request will most likely be denied and that it’s best to have her do it. Now I don’t consider this to be my therapist’s homework but mine and I need to do the legwork to keep her so I asked them if I can just appeal please. The rep put me on hold to get me the number for that dept and when she got back on she said her supervisor repeated what she initially told me. Is this correct information or am I being bullshitted? And if I have to ask my therapist to submit my form does that magically make everything run smoothly or am I asking her for something that is going to cost her and is a nightmare to deal with [hence why they don’t take my insurance?] Any advice welcome.
A few other bits of info:
My husband and I don’t have the same insurance. His covers family therapy.
This is the first year I have bright health, I had a different ins provided the last two years.
My therapist does offer a $75 flat rate if my insurance doesn’t cover them in case this matters.
I don’t want to go back to my old insurance, it’s ~$250 more ($550 vs $720) than the one I have currently and I frankly can’t afford it. US insurance company price gouge too much as we all know.
Tldr: is there a way I can keep my therapist even though I changed insurance?
