OON Claim – PPO

I have PPO and there is OON coverage obviously with extremely high deductible and 30% coinsurance.

I rarely go OON but this time I had to for various reasons.

The OON provider I have seen sent me a statement and this is what it looks like –

Original cost $299.00

Insurance discount/adjustments -$182.08

Insurance paid $0.00

Amount due $116.92

Why is there a discount/adjustment when the provider is clearly OON and does not have any contract with my insurance? If I pay the amount due ($116.92), is that pretty much good? Or will the OON provider still balance bill me for the supposedly “discount/adjustment” later? Are there ways to handle this properly that work out in my favor?
