First off, I am Canadian. Most medical appointments, tests, and examinations are covered here. However you do still need to pay for medication and dental.
A lot of people will pay out-of-pocket if the med is not expensive, or purchase health insurance through a provider (Manulife, Sun Life, etc.) unless they get it through their employer.
1). How hard is it to get medical and drug coverage in the United States?
2). I have a pre-existing autoimmune condition (Rheumatoid Arthritis), would this bar me from coverage?
3). Do a lot of companies provide health and drug coverage to their employees?
4). Does everything have a cost? Even basic things like a blood test or urine STI screening? Even a basic check-up?
5). Lastly, is the medical system in the US that bad that it should deter me from pursuing a life there? Should I think twice? Especially considering I have chronic illnesses and require a few specialists (Rheumatologist, Respirologist, etc.)…?
Thank you in advance. I have Googled a lot of this stuff but the information is always so difficult to go through, and sometimes is conflicting. Hence why I would love to hear from people with first-hand experience!
