(I am age 36, zip code 23320) I lost my job in December. I applied for and enrolled in a plan through healthcare.gov. I’m receiving tax credits that pay the monthly amount due so all I’m required to pay is the copay for visits and the deductible, which is about $50. The plan started on 1/1/22.
I also applied for SNAP benefits and received those, and along with it qualify for Medicaid, which is supposed to start on 2/1/22.
During all of this I’ve been dealing with a non-healing wound on my left leg. Long story short, I just had my leg amputated above the knee on Friday, 1/21/22. I was just advised today that Medicaid does not cover rehab at a facility. This concerns me because going to a rehab facility after leaving the hospital was one of the requirements of the doctor agreeing to perform the amputation.
Is there a way for me to keep the plan I have through healthcare.gov and cancel the Medicaid? Or am I basically SOL at this point? I don’t have the money to pay for the insurance on my own, it’s like $800 a month for my husband and I.
Any suggestions here? I want to do the right thing and be able to have the rehab I need.
