I flaired this as “claims” because i didn’t really know what else it qualified for.
I hadn’t been to the doctor for like 3 years. But I decided to go in for back pain on one side but I also asked her for updated bloodwork since my last doctor had no problem ordering it for me.
This doctor told me that she will not order bloodwork for me under any circumstances unless she thinks I have a medical condition that will require it.
I was confused because I thought it was normal to have bloodwork yearly as part of normal procedure if you haven’t seen a doctor in a long time. I also told her I was 50 pounds overweight and that obesity is a medical condition – she still wouldn’t order bloodwork for me.
Many medical issues are better diagnosed with bloodwork before they become full-blown symptomatic disease, so it doesn’t make sense for her to deny doing basic bloodwork.
I even asked her, “if I changed my appointment to a wellness exam vs a back exam THEN could I get bloodwork ordered?” She said no.
So is this true that you can’t just get bloodwork ordered easily any more? I thought it was a standard thing for doctors to order. It’s weird to me.
