Hi- I am hoping someone can help me figure out how many therapy sessions my disabled 2 year son will actually get this year. He needs weekly (at minimum) physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. All of the paperwork on our plan says 35 sessions PT, 35 sessions OT, unlimited speech. When I call in I am also told this. However, our therapy center is saying his insurance plan is actually managed by Optum and that they require pre authorization for services. They are telling me they typically only see Optum approve 20 therapy sessions a year. This would be a huge financial hardship for us if true. Optum did approve the first pre authorization request sent over, but it is only valid through March and I am nervous about having to request preauthorization every few months. Is there anything that can be done to ensure my son gets the therapy coverage promised in his plan?
