Before getting lab work I checked on my insurance website to find an in-network lab (that is also a “designated diagnostic provider”) and estimate the costs. I was shocked when I got the EOB and bill for the tests which had a total that was $350 more than the estimate provided. I know it is an “estimate” but how could it be that far off?? This is why I used the estimator, to avoid this!
I have not met my deductible yet so I am responsible for 100% however the estimate accounted for this and did not include insurance paying anything.
I had lab work done twice at this lab so both bills are significant and more than expected. Following the cost estimate, I should have been charged around $100 total. I have been billed for around $750! Am I missing something? What can/should I do?
I have United healthcare through my employer.
