Last year I have surpassed the family out-of-pocket maximum for the insurance. For most visits that happened after we reached the max, I seem to have been able to communicate with doc’s offices successfully that the bills should be fully covered by the insurance provider.
However there were multiple bills arriving within a few days/weeks of each other, and somewhere along the line I have reached the maximum. One of the bills I paid only partially, and then (naively) believed that eventually they will sort out that the rest should be covered by the insurance company.
Instead I just received a letter from debt collector, Financial Corporation of America.
What is the best approach at this point to make debt go away?
Do I start by disputing the debt? Or are there other steps I should take to not make the matters worse?
If it matters, we are talking about California.
Any advise is welcome!
