(MO) Insurance is billing me, when insurance ‘hasn’t responded.’

TLDR: In network dentist is sending me a bill for $1,500 because they stated my insurance company never responded. Spoke to my insurance company who stated they never even received a claim from this dentist the entire year of 2021. Dentist says they filed electronically. But BCBS states they never received their multiple claims.

Insurance isn’t some fly-by-night company – it’s Blue Cross Blue Shield and they’ve handled all other claims from other medical practices. What options do I have?

It’s technically not even a denied claim to appeal since the insurance company never received it. What happens if they just sent it to collections?
