Tennessee BCBS EPO/HMO workplace coverage. We picked an in network hospital with an in network NICU for the birth. Immediately after birth my LO turned blue and stopped breathing. LO went in for 24 hours at NICU in hospital until they needed a transfer for care they could not do. I asked about insurance they said the hospital took my insurance. They said they needed to send LO to this hospital to save LO life. I didn’t think twice. Hospital turns out is out of network for my coverage. I am aware that I signed paperwork and that I fully believed them to be in network at the time of that signing. That hospital did end up saving LO life and diagnosed LO with strokes that were causing seizures and causing her to stop breathing. One of these events happened the first time I held LO and I still don’t sleep so well making sure LO is breathing. EOB is complicated because LO was born on 12/14 and they didn’t start the coverage till 1/1 so we got that updated first, but now the hospital is OON for my coverage and that NICU stay is not covered. I have reached out to insurance and they have been working with me. Do I have any chance that I am not stuck with this whole charge? Anything that might put my mind at some peace that me and my new family are going to be ok out of this?
