There is no way I can make this a short story……I had open enrollment for my job September 2021, at the time. I signed up for myself only to take advantage of the HSA. We (husband, myself, and 2 18+ children were covered under his policy. At the end of October he quit his job and I was to add them on to my policy. I emailed Human Resources requesting how to Go about it. I heard nothing back, emailed a second time about a week and a half later and again heard nothing. Another employee told me I was emailing the wrong place. I had to email benefits, not Human Resources.
I did email benefits and they did not get back to me until 12/9 telling me what I should do. I was denied because it was over 30 days. I tried……granted it was my mistake emailing the wrong department, and I honestly feel a 3 sentence reply was in order stating that this was going to the wrong department.
I am not sure what to do, we actually did not know it didn’t go through until today because I signed on to print an insurance card for my oldest to give to her college as they want that on file. I called benefits and explained the whole thing and they were pretty much like, “you’re screwed”
Also, due to the fact that we were taking my insurance, my husband declined benefits at his new job.
I tried applying through the state…..we do not qualify for any plan due to income. I tried looking online and everybody want qualifying life events. Connecticut doesn’t seem to want to insure anybody out of open enrollment and there don’t seem to be any private brokers that will sell health insurance to a Connecticut resident.
Do I have any options at all? Or am I faced with not having my family insured until January 2023?
