Sounds absurd to me, but smart person told me this. I have a prescription for a CT scan based on family history of pancreatic cancer, but no symptoms of any sort- just purely for monitoring. I have read my whole plan and don’t think this is covered. So instead of getting a supposed pre-authorization thru doctor’s office, and getting it done at his hospital, I want to play it safe (if preauth reversed or incorrect a hospital cat scan would be maybe $5,000?) and call an imaging center and pay $350 cash instead…about same as I’d pay thru insurance with my deductible. But then my friend told me what my title says.
Seems unlikely since you can go to pharmacy and buy stool test kit to detect colon cancer instead of getting a colonoscopy of FIT test officially done, and obviously insurance company wouldn’t refuse treatment if found. But this is slightly different in that a doctors order required for Cat scan.
Utter BS?
