I live in Florida and have Ambetter insurance. I recently developed something that caused me to have blood in my urine. It stopped after a few days, but I went to my primary doctor and they gave me a referral to see a urologist.
The urologist they referred me to was in network according to Ambetter’s website. So I called to make an appointment and they said that they were sorry, they didn’t take Ambetter anymore. I went to the carrier’s website and started contacting other urologists in my area. None listed as in-network on the website took the insurance anymore.
I called Ambetter repeatedly and all they would do is give me a list of in-network urologists that was the same as the website list. Finally after much frustration my wife called them and for hours made them call each of the urologists on their list to get me an appointment. The only one they were able to find is a 4 hour round trip from where I live.
So after all that I started calling doctors nearer to me. None of them will see me because they don’t take my insurance. I told them I would pay cash and they still refused to see me. One receptionist I spoke to said it would be illegal for them to allow me to pay for their services. One of the reps I spoke with at Ambetter told me to just go and have the doctor bill them. The first doctor’s office I suggested that to laughed and laughed.
So now I don’t know what to do. I feel fine, but I need to find out why I was passing blood. After speaking to people at Healthcare.gov they told me to file an appeal, which I did explaining in detail how Ambetter deceived me by having numerous doctors listed on their website as being in-network when they aren’t. I haven’t heard back yet, but that was just yesterday.
Anyway, can anyone suggest something? Like I said, I feel fine and my urine has been at least visibly clear of blood for several days now even though my primary tested it and said there is still a small amount of blood in it. So I can’t really go to the ER or anything.
I don’t know what to do and my wife is freaking out.
Edit: I am a 59 year old male in Central Florida
