Looking for advice about health insurance in the US.

(i) Intro :

Hello fellow good Redditors,

I’m hereby asking help on my journey to search for good health insurance in the US. I would appreciate it very much if I can get some collective help here. The two main goals for me here is to get a) specific recommendations b) tips to find good health insurance. An additional question I have is how the work insurance would handle employees requiring additional health attention.

It would be really great if you go through the details, but if you aren’t really in the mood to read a whole bunch of texts, feel free to jump to the section iii – conclusion/summary.

(ii) Detail :

To give you some background, I’m searching for temporary health insurance for me and my fiancée. We just have a little gap(1~2 months) until the start of our work – that’s what we are assuming. We are both not from the US, but from different countries where public healthcare/national health insurance was mandatory, hence both of us aren’t really keen on this topic and we didn’t have to worry.

The thing is, there are important medical conditions that MUST be taken under consideration for my fiancée. I’ve been very healthy my entire life so I’m not worried about myself, however, that is not the case for her- I joke with her that all the health that’s supposed to be shared between her and I somehow ended up only on my side. She had an acute organ failure that brought her near death and complete vision loss which included several weeks of stay in ICU and months in a hospital. I couldn’t even enter because there weren’t any official documents(we aren’t married yet). After everything she went through, she needs one and a half year of regular dialysis backed up with regular whole body check up. In addition to that, since her liver and kidney aren’t functioning fully yet, we need to be sure that emergency situations are covered(or co-pay to some extent at least). And last but not least, back/spine checkups because her back started to ache a bit after losing so much muscle after what she went through – we are trying to prevent turning it into a chronic condition.

(iii) Conclusion/Summary :

To summarize…

We are both non-US citizens and in our 20s. I’m in good health, but my fianceé is not.

Main point – I’m looking for a good temporary health insurance which covers (or MUST cover) 1) Regular dialysis 2) Back/Spine check ups 3) Liver/kidney emergencies 4) Regular whole body check up. Would there be any specific recommendations or tips to find the best fit?

Secondary point – How would work health insurance handle this? If that is not enough, I am willing to get extra health insurance for my fiancée.

(iv) Additional words :

We are both in STEM industries(Still searching for jobs) and we already know that our first couple of years here will be pretty hectic (but happy). That’s why I’m trying to prepare before we enter that phase. But this is one thing that I really want to make it… right. And yeah, she’s eventually gonna get much better so I really want to help her and accelerate that process. I acknowledge that this is probably too much to ask or write randomly online but I would personally really appreciate constructive replies/advice. And yes, I am talking to actual people around me(friends, connections) as well! I also posted this on other subreddits.

Thank you very much to everyone who reached till the end. Take care as always.
