I’ve been on SDI for a back injury since July, and yesterday I was doing rehab when I felt my achilles pop. I went to the ER and they said I ruptured my achilles and need to see an orthopedic doctor asap for surgery.
I had a panic attack right then and there thinking about the financial hardship to come. Since July, I’ve only been earning SDI, which is half of what I was making, and I’ve been struggling to make rent.
Now, without insurance, no COBRA eligibility, and no job or income, I need emergency surgery. Do I have any options?
I just submitted my application for Medi-Cal, but approval could take weeks. I’m in a lot of pain and know I need medical attention again very soon.
