Dentist keeps saying insurance may not cover it, but insurance says they will?

Has anybody experienced this? I honestly feel like my dentist office is being scammy at this point because I’ve had multiple issues with them not delivering paperwork to my insurance. My insurance reps have all gotten them on 3 way calls with me to come find out they didn’t submit the paperwork.

I am getting 15k worth of crowns. My insurance should pay 80% at a 4K maximum. I call the insurance company today and they say yes it’s covered. But my dentist office keeps saying they won’t cover them because it’s “cosmetic” even tho the dentist themselves wrote a letter saying it’s medically necessary and not cosmetic.

I’d like to add here, I am basically working a 2nd job as the project manager between the office and my insurance. My dentist will say “oh yeah we will send the documents for the pre-treatment estimate today!” And then two weeks later I call my insurance and they say they didn’t get anything. My dentist also keeps saying these letters take 6-8 weeks but my insurance rep today told me 2 weeks.

I’m so frustrated!! I’m in the MIDDLE of a 2 part procedure here so I don’t know if another dentist can even help at this stage. Why does the dentist keep saying it won’t be covered? My paperwork says it’s covered, the insurance is saying yes we cover that just send us the documents for the pre-treatment estimate.

Can someone explain?
