I purchased hearings aids in July last year. I live in Virginia with anthem insurance, right from the start the company couldn’t figure out my insurance policy, they talked to them and we were told what it was along with another time I had insurance on speaker phone to explain the policy.
We assumed it would be around 1200$ finally. ‘Est.’ as written on the form.
Insurance ended up since they were in network said I only owed 384$ out of 9900$.
The hearing aid company has been billing me for around 5000$ since December. I haven’t paid a dime to them because it’s not correct at all. I will admit that insurance saying what I owe sounds low. But the coverage is 3k per ear covered and I pay 20% of what’s left. After finding out through insurance that they are in network for my PPO and are suppose to give a discounted rate the initial price shouldnt have started at 9900$, because whatever contract they have.
They won’t call insurance back or answer the phone for them. The girl at the front office basically told me here’s our billing department number I can’t deal with this anymore it’s stressing me out.
I call the billing number and it’s some billing persons office of an area states away. She informs me I should have never been given her number because it’s not her area. Then tells me a heads up that the paperwork I signed with the estimate is a contract between myself and the practice not insurance. So I told them, according to her, that I’d pay the leftover amount insurance doesn’t pay even though it says estimated,
The practice owner calls today, instead of the regional manager who should have called and she says hey look insurance never paid us anything(lie, 1800$ was paid to them) how about we just do the est. $1200 and close this out get it over with.
Being the agreeable idiot I am I told her I was expecting to pay that much and insurance was awfully a low amount. I’d be fine with it but I need to verify with my husband first.
My insurance has said don’t talk to them until they can get to the bottom line of it. But they won’t call insurance back or answer. They keep calling me.
This is the first time in my life I’ve been in this situation, as a person who’s always worn hearing aids. I don’t know if I should reach out to a lawyer and I don’t understand who has the right to say what I owe, insurance or the company? When I’m too nice on the phone being agreeable can they use that against me? How do these things pan out typically? What does insurance do typically if the provider won’t respond to calls?
